Ice hockey on IPTV
The SHL and Liiga from September to April, the NHL through the Nordic night, and a World Championship every May. Hockey is also the sport that shows first whether your device keeps up.
NHL games mostly start between 01:00 and 04:30 Nordic time, so catch-up matters more for hockey than for any other sport. The 2027 World Championship runs from 14 to 30 May in Düsseldorf and Mannheim. A fast puck exposes a weak device, so test with a live game.
SHL and HockeyAllsvenskan
The SHL regular season starts in September and ends in March, followed by the playoffs into late April. Most rounds are played on weekday evenings at 19:00 and on Saturday afternoons. HockeyAllsvenskan follows a similar calendar one level down.
With many games starting at the same time, a twelve-month plan with four screens lets a household follow more than one.
Liiga
Finland's Liiga also runs from September to April. Games usually start at 18:30 Finnish time, which is 17:30 in Sweden, Norway and Denmark. The guide converts the time to your device's clock.
NHL from Europe
The NHL regular season runs from October to April, with the Stanley Cup playoffs into June. An evening game in North America becomes a night game in the Nordics:
| Start in New York | Sweden, Norway, Denmark | Finland |
|---|---|---|
| 13:00 (weekend afternoon) | 19:00 | 20:00 |
| 19:00 (usual evening start) | 01:00 | 02:00 |
| 22:00 (West Coast evening) | 04:00 | 05:00 |
Catch-up turns a 01:00 game into a breakfast game. Three- and six-month plans keep 7 days, twelve months keeps 14. The test and the one-month plan have none.
The 2027 World Championship
Germany hosts the 2027 IIHF World Championship from 14 to 30 May, with games in Düsseldorf and Mannheim and the opening game in Gelsenkirchen on 13 May. Germany is on the same time as Sweden, Norway and Denmark, so evening games start at Nordic prime time.
A World Championship is a short, intense window. The one-month plan covers it, though it has no catch-up.
Norway, Denmark and the Champions Hockey League
The Norwegian and Danish top flights, the Champions Hockey League and international breaks complete the season. Smaller leagues change channel more often than the big ones, so ask in the chat if one of them is the reason you subscribe.
Why hockey needs a good device
A puck moves faster than anything else on a TV screen. A device that decodes the stream too slowly drops frames, and the puck jumps. That is the device, not the stream, and a better device fixes it.
